National Tank Truck Carriers (NTTC) of Arlington, Va., recently named Gemini Motor Transport of Oklahoma City and G&D Trucking Inc./ Hoffman Transportation of Channahon, Ill., as winners of the 2018 North American Safety Champions award.

The two companies were honored in April during NTTC’s annual conference and exhibits at the Fairmont Royal York in Toronto, Canada.

Heil Trailer International sponsors NTTC’s North American Safety awards, which recognize the best tank-truck safety programs in two different mileage divisions.

“Congratulations to Gemini and Hoffman,’’ said Lee Miller, NTTC chairman. “As a former Heil Award winner, I can tell you that it takes a real team effort to prioritize safety across your organization. Both companies should be proud.”

Doug Chapple, chief executive for EnTrans International, said: “Congratulations to both Gemini Motor Transport and G&D Trucking, Inc./Hoffman Transportation for bringing home the awards. The two Heil trophies embody a commitment to safety and what it means within our essential industry.’’

Dean Kaplan, chairman of NTTC’s contests committee, said, “The tank-truck industry prides itself on its well-earned reputation for safety. “In a highly-competitive contest year, these two carriers earned the respect of their peers. They and their employees who contributed to their safety success should enjoy their victory. With Heil’s support, we are pleased to recognize these two carriers whose efforts epitomize NTTC’s mission to champion safety in our unique segment of trucking.’’

Mileage Divisions Award Recipients

The mileage divisions are named after the association’s first two and longest-serving presidents: Austin Sutherland (1945-1972) and his successor, Cliff Harvison (1972-2005). The mileage-based dividing line of the fleet size categories is 15 million miles. Gemini Motor Transport won its division with an accident frequency of 0.291 accidents per million miles. G&D Trucking’s accident frequency of 0.090 accidents per million miles was the winning mark in the Sutherland Division.
