Blackmer Celebrates 115 Years

Blackmer is celebreating its 115-year anniversary this year. Based in Grand Rapids, Mich., Blackmer is “a global leader’’ in positive displacement, regenerative turbine and centrifugal pump, and reciprocating compressor technologies, the company said in a press release.

Blackmer History

Blackmer was founded 1899 when Robert Blackmer developed an efficient alternative to the rotary gear pumps that were a prevalent pumping technology at the time. Blackmer’s invention would become the predecessor to today’s sliding vane pumps.

In 1903, Blackmer founded the Blackmer Pump, Power and Manufacturing Co. in Petoskey, Mich., where it remained until 1925 when it relocated to Grand Rapids, Mich.
